The great debate in professional careers revolves around who should be paying for and taking care of continuing education classes. Healthcare professionals know that they need the courses throughout their career, but many people feel like the employer should be taking care of them. Employers often feel like it’s just responsible and it makes sense for people to take care of their CE on their own because it is a part of their career that needs to be tended to. However, with all of this thinking and assuming, there is very little discussion going on. Employers and their employees need to discuss the issue of CE courses and who will be responsible so that everyone is on the same page.

Many employees will make healthcare CE part of the job stipulation when they are hired somewhere. For some employers, this isn’t a big deal because it allows them to keep tabs on their professionals and what they are doing. However, other employers will fight tooth and nail to make sure that everyone is taking care of their own needs. It is to the employer’s advantage to take care of CE credits because they won’t have to worry about a license expiring or someone losing certification because they didn’t take their classes. For some employers, though, this makes them feel like they are having to babysit, and no one likes to deal with that.

With online courses, healthcare CE is no longer as much of a hassle as it once was, allowing whoever pays for the courses to have an easy time finding them and affording them. Whether the employer is looking for an easy way to train people on an individual basis or the employee is looking for affordable classes to keep their professional certification, the choice of online courses is a great one. There are so many different online CE programs to choose from and professionals will have a much wider array of courses that they can take compared to traditional classes.

It doesn’t matter who pays for healthcare CE. To you, it might, but at the end of the day only one thing matters: that you get your CE credits when you need them so that you don’t lose your professional certification or licensing. You need to discuss this with your employer to make sure that you are both on the same page and able to agree on who is going to be responsible for CE courses. And when one leaves it to the other, they should still keep tabs to ensure that it’s getting taken care of.
