Real Estate Success- Agents in the Posh Hamptons of NY are Finding More Work

Real Estate License
Of all of the real estate markets that were floored by the recession, none was harder hit than the Hamptons, New York’s posh playground for the rich and famous. However, now that things are starting to slowly pick back up, the Hamptons is seeing just as much of a comeback as they did a setback many months ago. Real estate agents are stunned at the increase in business and the popularity of their services in this region that was all but abandoned by home buyers for a very long time. This is just one sliver of proof that things are eventually going to get back to normal.
Prices are down from their peak, but third quarter sales are expected to triple compared to just six months ago, putting the Hamptons in a great place for celebration. Experts are predicting upwards of 300 sales from Southampton to Montauk by the end of September 30th, which almost equals the number of sales for the entire Long Island tip in the same quarter of 2008. That’s an impressive leap for an area that was once left for dead by buyers who weren’t interested in the over-priced luxury of this New York summer getaway for the rich and famous people, many of which call this place home.
It’s no surprise that sales are picking back up, but in a time like now the most luxurious region on the East Coast isn’t exactly where agents were expecting to see sales. Nonetheless, they’re not going to turn them away, and can’t wait to see what comes next for the newest hot and happening market in the real estate industry. Considering that most of the people who hang out here are the ones that live off the money from Wall Street, it’s no wonder that sales slowed down. People actually joked that phone lines weren’t working and that there was a new hotspot out there that no one knew about, because it was so desolate.
However, sales have picked up on the Eastern Long Island seaboard, giving real estate agents a chance to hope and dream again. Buyers have decided that the market was bottoming out, and that they want to get their hands in while the deals are hot. Then, in ten years, they’ll make a much better profit when things are valued higher and more appreciated because the economy is back where it belongs.

High-Tech Hair Cuts- Online Cosmetology Programs and Licensure Options are Growing

Cosmetology
It was not long ago that students were forced to travel, attend classes wherever they were offered, and make time and effort to get the education that they so desperately wanted. In recent years, it has become increasingly easy for students to travel less, learn more, and even get complete degrees online. Within the cosmetology industry, online education is an option that is growing in popularity, but not nearly as sought out as other programs. Cosmetology is a very hands-on type of career, which is why in-person training and education is much more desirable than even the most convenient online classes.
Online cosmetology programs are not new, and not all of them are hands-off. There are requirements for practical applications that must be met, allowing students to do some work online, but then attend a classroom setting to get their practice hours in. Even with all of the growth in online education, state testing and licensure for many trades and licensed careers has remained something that is done in person. There are various reasons that state laws don’t let people take online exams for career licenses, among them being the ability to cheat on the test or have others take it for them.
Georgia is one of the first states to offer online licensing applications, which is very convenient for many students seeking their master cosmetology license. Once the students pass the required exam, the application for licensure can be submitted online via a secure server to the Secretary of State. This option was sought by the Secretary of State herself, who oversees the Professional Licensing Board Division. Karen Handel openly encouraged all of the licensing boards in the state to consider ways to become more cost-effective and efficient through the use of technology, and the Cosmetology Board listened.
Under the new regulations, applicants can apply for their license online after they have passed the exam, and current license holders are able to renew their licenses online, rather than having to go through the hassle of going out and getting it renewed. Although many states are leery of this online licensing option, it is one that will continue to progress as time goes on. It is more cost-effective for the state, more efficient for everyone involved and much more convenient for license holders and new applicants who used to spend hours filling out paperwork and getting their professional licenses. With all of the technology available today, it’s only a matter of time before everything becomes a little more convenient. For applicants in Georgia, that time is now.

EPA Regulations Update- Florida Water Pollution Limits Mandated

Environmental
In August of this year, the EPA settled a lawsuit filed by the Sierra Club with the agreement to set standards for farm and urban runoff pollutants. These standards will be numeric in value, allowing for a clear and precise knowledge of exactly how much fertilizer and animal waste is polluting waterways and how much it needs to be reduced. This is the first time in history that the EPA has put limits on what they refer to as ‘nutrient runoff’ within a particular state. Many states have their own standards set forth, while many have very limited ideas about pollution through waste and fertilizer products.
Having numeric limits makes a much clearer statement about what will and won’t be tolerated when it comes to runoff from farms and urban sources. Instead of just telling people that they need to lower the amount of waste runoff, they can now give them an exact number value to aim for, creating less pollution throughout Florida’s waterways. Even though this was a one-of-a-kind event, it was a landmark case for environmentalists, and it’s only a matter of time before the EPA sets out to regulate the waste limits in other states around the country.
Numbers make everything easier for everyone. They can better look out for major polluting sources and help farmers to regulate and control their own agricultural runoff, which will serve to protect the environment and the farmers who live and work the lands that they love. Fertilizer in and of itself is not the enemy. Rather, it is the harmful nitrogen and phosphorus from this product and other wastes that environmentalists are concerned about. The EPA has until January 14, 2010 to come up with a proposal, which must be finalized by October of next year. During this time, they have made it clear that they will work with scientists from the Florida Department of Environmental Protection to come up with water quality standards that are possible and scientifically defensible.
Many environmentalists blame the runoff for a variety of situations that occur in Florida waterways. However, without study and proof, it is hard to say much more than that these elements are harming the waters to an extent that is greater than it should be. Florida is leading by example, and it’s likely only going to be a matter of time before other states follow suit and become EPA regulated for runoff pollution.

No Insurance, No Patients- When a ‘Necessary’ Job isn’t so Necessary

Insurance Training
Everyone is feeling the chill of the economic cooling, and no careers are exempt from experiencing some sort of difficulty with the current state of the economy. However, there are some people who still feel like they should be ‘infallible’. Medical professionals of all kinds, while necessary for many, are not as much needed as they once were. The cause of this lack of need is not hard to figure out. People are facing the worst economic times ever, fewer people have insurance than ever before, and as a result many people are opting not to visit the doctor or the hospital for things that aren’t life threateningly serious.
For some, even the seriousness of the illness doesn’t matter. If they don’t have insurance or the money to pay for their medications or treatments, there is nothing that they can do about it. Many cities and counties around the country have free or reduced-cost services for patients in this situation, but often the guidelines and paperwork involved are so complicated and drawn out that people get discouraged before they even finish the application process.
The medical profession does need people, but certainly not like it used to. Until things get back on track or a health care reform bill passes that will help the situation, medical services for minor issues just aren’t as important as they once were. If people can get over-the-counter products that will work or can live with whatever small symptoms that they may have, many will simply to save the expense. After all, who can afford a doctor’s visit out-of-pocket, let alone even find a doctor that is willing to take them as a patient without full payment up front?
Medical professionals have to make a living, too. However, when so many people are in a predicament like the one that they are currently facing, it’s often too difficult to for them to even fathom paying medical expenses or hefty insurance premiums up front. The answer to this huge problem is unknown, but until something happens to make medical services more accessible to the financially unstable, they likely won’t be seeking them out. Hospitals and medical facilities are NOT exempt from the threat of downsizing and shrinking business, so everyone needs to be prepared and hope for the best. Until things start to get better, that’s really all that you can do.

Engineering Jobs- The Future of Engineering

Industrial Skills
In the next 15 years, the world is going to be making big changes. There are so many things that will be different, but there will always be a place for engineering jobs. In fact, experts are predicting that engineering jobs will be even more critical and desirable in the future than they are today. There are far too many variables in play to determine what the economy will actually look like in 10 to 15 years, but they can predict what the workforce will look like. It’s estimated that people will average a dozen different careers in their lifetime and there will be no more ‘going to the office’.
The internet will make working from home more efficient, and offer people the ability to work from flexible locations so that they can do right by the customer first. Everyone is going to have to be computer savvy, because those will rule the working world. Design jobs and engineering jobs are the ones that will have the most impact and growth in the future workforce. Currently, engineering jobs are still one of the most desired positions out there in spite of the economy. As things continue to progress towards the future, that need will continue to grow and probably exceed the expectations of just about everyone.
As of right now, engineering students have the utmost confidence in their job capabilities and prospects. They feel that there are plenty of contracts out there, and that they will have no trouble finding the jobs that they want and need once they have completed their education. The majority of them even think that their chances are better than double that of their classmates coming out of college with different majors. This, of course, is part speculation and part research, but it’s completely legitimate and expected, because the industry IS one of the few still growing despite the economy.
The future of engineering is very bright, and it will likely be one of the most important jobs in 15 years. There will be so many dynamic changes taking place that people will need engineers much like they need IT services today. The children who are now entering grade school and even high school can definitely count on a career in engineering when they are old enough to reach the career market. It doesn’t matter what specific designation they take or how they choose to do it, because engineering jobs seem to be the job of the future for anyone.
