Everyone is looking to go green and do their part to help the environment. However, there is much more to be found than just changing your own personal life for those who are truly committed to the success of the environment. For starters, imagine being able to have a career of helping the environment in a variety of different ways, and knowing that you have done something good at the end of the day. Does this sound like a good idea to you? Then environmental sciences careers are waiting for you! There are many different types of environmental careers to choose from, and each one is yours for the taking.
Environmental sciences careers come in three major areas: environmental health, water and waste management, and environmental business. Choosing the exact area that you want to work in will be a decision that you have to make on your own, but you can make it knowing that no matter what you choose, you’ll be making a difference. If you or someone you know is passionate about helping the world to become a better place, this career might just be what you’ve been looking for. The U.S. EPA is in charge of making sure that the environment is clean, protected, and safe for people to utilize and reside in, and as an employee with any company you will have some affiliation with this department.
There are a variety of places that you can start. You can get training and education for a specific position, you can find programs that offer apprenticeship and hands on experience, and you can even find entry-level jobs that will let you start right out of high school. There is so much to choose from that you can definitely find your fit without a problem.
There are many different courses that you’ll need to take depending on the environmental sciences job that you choose. You can work in the U.S. or Canada with a variety of agencies that have information about the educational requirements and compensation, including projection of future jobs and salaries for the industry. Some people will make less in this field because they have less training, but if you become a professional level worker in the industry, you can earn upwards of $20 per hour or more for doing what you love: taking care of your planet. What’s better than having a job that you love and being compensated well for it, after all?
