The industrial industry consists of electricians, engineers, and other technical professions that require a great level of skill on the job. Risk management and workplace safety are priorities in all of these industrial fields, as most are known for being higher risk professions. Obviously, someone involved in an engineering project or electrical work is at a higher risk than an insurance salesperson or a retail cashier. Therefore, safety and risk management is taught as part of the curriculum. Here are some tips and tricks to increase safety in the workplace when it comes to industrial jobs.

First, always know what could go wrong. Plan ahead and always do things step by step so that you can minimize the risk that can occur. Think of every worst case scenario possible, and then plan for that event in your scheduling and preparation so that you can prevent these things from happening. Also, you should take the time to learn about your environment. Electricians, engineers, and other industrial workers don’t have one office they go to everyday. Instead, they work in a variety of places and buildings. Knowing the designs of these buildings and potential risks of them will help you to prevent accidents and occurrences that could affect the safety of the people working there.

Most licensing exams require extensive knowledge of safety and OSHA practices. Therefore, you may already know just about everything that there is to know about safety and minimizing risk on the job site. However, you can never be too careful. Never take your job or your work for granted, because as soon as you get comfortable in your position, that’s when accidents happen. Always be on the lookout for potential dangers, and never overlook something that seems like a minor risk because it could quickly turn into a major issue.

You should also never work for any company or person that asks you to compromise your personal safety or wellbeing for the sake of a job. If you feel that something is too risky, you shouldn’t do it. When you work for someone else, it can be hard to say no in situations like this, but it is the only way to make sure that you are protected when things like this come up. As an industrial worker, it is your responsibility to do your job in the safest way possible. Being informed and prepared is the key to achieving this goal.

What is Grounding?

Category: Industrial Skills

As an electrician, there are two different systems that can be used for ungrounded electrical work. These are known as grounding and bonding. High voltage wires, for example, are grounded to the earth to limit the voltage that the system is exposed to in the event of a short or a lightning strike. Anything that is electrical must be grounded to the earth or a surface that is connected to the earth to make it safer for everyone involved. This can be done with structure disconnecting means or with a grounding electrode conductor to a grounding electrode.

If a light switch is not grounded, it can short out during any type of electrical storm or wiring problem, causing a fire or a complete electrical system failure. In addition to grounding, these pieces also need to be covered with surge protection to avoid high voltage transients or impulses. This will protect them from lightning strikes and other power surges. Once this has been completed, there is one more protective step to take.

The metal parts then need to be bonded together, and bonded to the metal enclosure of the system. You should also be careful not to bond these items to electrically conductive materials that might become energized. This, after all, would defeat the purpose of grounding the electrical wires or parts in the first place. You need to install the equipment and wiring in a method that is permanent and offers a fault-current path from any point on the system to the source of the electrical supply. This path should be low-impedance, which will facilitate the operation of devices that are over current, in the event that a second ground fault occurs on the system.

Electrical work can be complicated if you don’t know what you’re doing or what you are looking for. By taking the time to ensure that you’re able to understand what you’re doing and how wiring should work, you’ll have a much safer work environment. Electrical grounding and bonding is essential to the success of the proper functioning of an electrical system. Even though they can seem complicated to those without training, someone who is trained as a certified electrician will understand the importance of proper grounding and bonding as it relates to the electrical systems of the world.

Getting into health professions may involve many different decisions. This is because there are so many different niches within the healthcare industry to choose from, and making this decision can often feel overwhelming. Some people don’t have the interest to return to school full-time or take eight years of their life to become a doctor or be on a higher professional level within the healthcare industry. That’s perfectly fine, though, because the healthcare industry needs just as many technicians and nurses as it does doctors, if not more. Here are some tips for choosing the right career within the healthcare industry if you don’t know what you want.

First, think of the work that you want to do. For example, if you like chemistry and biology, you might be more interested in working as a lab technician where you can run tests and do samples to diagnose patients, or even just for research purposes. Maybe you want to help people, and be able to do a little bit of care, but don’t want to be a doctor. You can become a nurse. And there are various levels of nursing to choose from, too. You could be an STNA, an LPN, an RN, or even a CPNA. Each one comes with its own level of educational requirements and job responsibilities. Some people might prefer working in radiology, where they can take and learn to read x-rays and other body scans and radiology tests that are performed.

After you have considered what interests you most, imagine where you would like to work. You can choose from working in hospitals and private practices to working in research labs and even nursing homes. Each different location has a different set of standards for their employees, but a nurse can work in a hospital with the same training and licensing that is needed to work in a nursing home. Choosing where you want to work might help you determine what you want to do, or even which certification you need.

Another factor, which shouldn’t be your first criteria, is the salary of these various careers. For example, RNs will make more than LPNs or STNAs. Also, technical jobs often pay better than a lot of people realize. Even though the training can sometimes be done in a very short amount of time, the technical nature of the jobs helps them to be worth more income than other less technical jobs. Finding the right job in the healthcare industry is all about knowing where you want to work, what you want to do, and how much money you want (or need) to make.

What is Daycare CE?

Category: Healthcare

Daycare teachers are those who care for children that are between the ages of infancy and five years old, when the children return to school (?). There are no requirements for people who work out of their home and only care for one or two children. However, there is a requirement for daycare CE when more children are involved, or when the facility is a public facility rather than someone’s private home. A high school diploma is required to become a daycare provider in most cases, simply as a way of showing proficiency in simple education. Each state’s laws are different, but many will not allow hiring of someone who hasn’t earned a high school education or GED.

Daycare CE also varies by state. There are many states that set requirements for providers to attend continuing education seminars and courses throughout their careers in order to allow them to work in child care. However, there are also many states where this isn’t regulated. That doesn’t mean that this type of education isn’t a good idea, though. Learning new things and refreshing the skills that a professional has can be an asset to any career. Having certified and updated licensure or status as a daycare provider can provide more accountability and more trusting customers. After all, these people are caring for other people’s children, so they should be at the top of their game when it comes to daycare CE.

The state and local governments are responsible for setting the standards for daycare workers in each area. However, many child care employers will actually set their standards higher than those required by the state or local government just to make sure that everyone is highly qualified and able to handle the profession as best they can. There are extensive background checks and other information sought on all people who work in the daycare industry. This often comes with daycare CE requirements and license renewal, as well, because keeping up on people’s changing lives is essential to making sure that no one has developed a criminal record or history during their employment.

For the states that don’t regulate daycare CE at all, the employers often do. This is very comforting to parents, because they want their children to be somewhere safe. When a stranger is outsourced to take care of a child, the parent wants to know that they are professionally trained and capable of doing the best job in keeping that child safe and happy. Continuing education and certification of daycare workers is the best way to show parents that the employees of a business are serious professionals, regardless of state mandates and laws.

This month’s tips and tricks segment will focus on generating and maintaining a customer base once you have an insurance license, specifically for agents and brokers. If you work with a company as an employee, you will likely be required to sign a non-compete form. This form basically states that you will not take clients with you or inform them that you are changing companies when you leave an insurance job. Many companies require the form as a part of the hiring process so that people don’t come in and work for the company, and then steal all the business when they leave. If people leave the company to seek a new agent or to find their own agent, they are required to do it on their own accord and not at the advisement of the agent in question.

The first step in generating a client base is to establish a good reputation for yourself as an insurance agent. By taking the time to do this, you’ll make an impression on people that will keep them coming back for future insurance needs. It can also generate a lot of referrals for your business, which will increase your client base. Take the time to network with customers and businesses in the area to get yourself known within the industry. Before you decide to work for a company, make sure that company has a good reputation. It doesn’t matter if you are the most reputable insurance agent in the state if you work for a company that has a bad reputation, because their credibility as a company will supersede your credibility as an individual.

To maintain your client base, you don’t have to stay with the same company throughout your career. Even if you sign a non-compete form, that doesn’t mean that you’ll lose customers if you leave. First, if your customers are committed, they’ll find you on their own. Second, some companies advertise new agents when they hire them, which will allow your customers to find you if they choose to do so. Also, if you go into business for yourself, you can’t tell customers that you’re leaving, but you can advertise your new business, and they can find you that way.

Generating and maintaining a customer base as an insurance agent can prove to be a daunting task at first. However, by networking and taking the time to establish yourself as a reputable agent, your client base can often build itself. Also, despite the of the non-compete form, there are ways to maintain your client base when you change jobs or attempt to move up in the industry.

What is Flood Insurance?

Category: Insurance Training

Flood insurance is independent of all other types of insurance. The professionals that sell and write flood insurance policies are required to have special education and training that adheres to the Department of Insurance requirements as well as the regulations set forth by FEMA, the Federal Emergency Management Agency. Also, each state will once again have different requirements aside from the Federal regulations. Every state requires that agents meet the requirements of the National Flood Insurance Program, or NFIP, as regulated by the federal system. This is because all flood insurance in the United States, regardless of the company that sells it, is underwritten by the NFIP.

This regulation explains why the rates on flood insurance don’t vary as much as they do for other types of insurance. The regulations are the same across the industry, making the policies the same, and competition nonexistent for the most part. Some companies will offer discounted policies or special rates for certain customers as a way to generate their own competition, but this is very rare. As a licensed flood insurance agent or underwriter, the individual will learn about flood practices and management within their state, as well as the different qualifications for flood insurance, including risk assessment and management.

Part of flood insurance licensing is a requirement for continuing education through the NFIP and FEMA, which is offered by a variety of institutions and state-approved programs. This education is generally required to be renewed every two years for those who sell or write flood insurance policies within their state. All agents are required to adhere to the Flood Insurance Reform Act of 2004, which outlines training and education requirements for flood insurance professionals. Again, each state has its own requirements for flood insurance training and continuing education, as they have for other insurance areas. The NFIP, when added to the state’s general licensing standards, can assist states in establishing best practices and training policies.

In recent years, natural disasters like Hurricane Katrina have proven how faulty and unregulated the flood insurance industry has been in certain areas. As a result, more states are trying to improve on their flood insurance education requirements and other regulations. In order to prevent complications and consumers from being uninformed, the mandates for flood insurance training and continuing education are being improved upon nationwide. Flood insurance training and certification is required for any insurance professional that will come in contact with this type of insurance, regardless of where they are located.

The real estate industry isn’t doing so great these days. However, it’s still a great career field to get into. You’re probably wondering why anyone would tell you to invest your career into an industry that is at its lowest point ever and shows no urgent signs of getting better. Well, it comes down to one thing: eventually, the market will get better. It might take some time, but even while it’s not that great, there is still plenty of business to be had. People will always need a place to live. Regardless of the state of the economy, someone, somewhere, is buying a home. That someone could be in your area, and you could be their real estate agent, mortgage broker, home inspector, or appraiser.

People don’t buy homes, have them appraised, or have them inspected as an impulse buy. These aren’t unnecessary things in life that people won’t spend money on. This market is one where people will need to spend money at some point, which means you will have a secure job for the most part. Right now it might seem like a bad career move, but in a few years when things are picking up again, you might realize that you made the best decision ever. Getting into a career in retail sales right now probably isn’t a smart move with all the companies going bankrupt and losing business. However, getting a career in the real estate industry IS a smart move, even with the current state of the economy.

If you’re considering a career in home inspection, title insurance, appraisal, mortgage lending, or even as a real estate agent, you shouldn’t be daunted by the current market. There are still people who need these services, even if they aren’t as plentiful as they might have been at one point. A great way to get into these markets right now is to start your own company or work independently and charge lower rates than the average for your particular area. You will get more clients because you have lower rates, and that quantity of people is where you will make your money. You can do the same thing with realtor fees, mortgage loan fees, home inspection rates, and title insurance services. Keep these things in mind, and your new career choice might look more appealing after all.

What are REOs?

Posted: Wednesday, April 15th, 2009
Category: Real Estate License

REOs, or Real Estate Owned properties, have become a multi-billion dollar industry in light of the recent mortgage crisis. Homes that don’t sell or won’t sell are often bought by banks and real estate companies, because they can afford the expense of holding on to the property until it sells. Investors and first time home buyers are making a big profit off of these properties, because they are often sold at bargain prices just to get them off the hands of the real estate agencies and banks that own them. REOs generally come from foreclosure auctions. The properties that don’t sell are taken back by the bank or lender, but they don’t deal with real estate. Thus, the properties are then sold to homebuyers, investors, or real estate agencies.

These homes are often sold at up to 50% below market value, simply because the banks want to get rid of them. Foreclosures are a good investment because they can be purchased cheaply, as can pre-foreclosure properties. However, REOs are often the best investment because when you buy them from the bank, you will get a much better deal on the home that you buy. Many of these homes are sold in ‘as-is’ condition. This means that the home could be able to be lived in or even entirely brand new. However, the home could also have mold, a leaky roof, infestation problems, and even need totally remodeled. This is where the buyer should beware.

Buying REOs is a great option for the people that want to save money on a home, but what good is saving $40,000 on a home when it will cost you $75,000 to fix it up and make it livable? It’s all about taking the time to find the deals and make sure that you are only considering buying properties that are actually good deals, and not buying a dump that isn’t worth it. Many websites will try to make you pay for listings of REOs in your area, but you can easily obtain a list of these properties and foreclosed properties by calling some local places. Local banks will have lists of the properties they own, and the sheriff’s office in your county should have a list of homes that are up for foreclosure.

There are so many REOs on the market right now that many people are able to buy homes that might have never had a chance to do so otherwise. By giving these people a more affordable option like a real estate or bank-owned property, they are able to buy a home in a market where many others can’t.

Three Ways to Land Your Dream Job

Category: Cosmetology

As a cosmetology professional, you have many different choices for working environments. You can work in a corporate-owned retail salon, a small business that is locally owned, or you can even start your own salon or business based on the certification that you have. It all depends on what you want from your career and how far you are willing to go to chase that dream. By taking the time to plan for the future and know what you want from your cosmetology career, you can easily get the job that you have always wanted. Here are three ways to find the job that you’ve been dreaming of:

-Apply, apply, apply. This might sound obvious, but too many people sell themselves short and don’t apply for positions that they want because they feel like they aren’t qualified. If you have the training and the right attitude, you can get just about any job you want. However, you need to actually apply for the position first, so that you can land the interview. Don’t think for one second that you ”can’t get a particular job” because you aren’t qualified. This defeatist attitude will hold you back.

-Network with other industry professionals. Make time to make friends in your career. Learn about other people in the industry, and find out what it takes for you to get the job that you want. Networking often leads to more job opportunities and better opportunities because you’ll meet people that you might not have expected to, that have a lot of experience within the industry.

-Establish your reputation. Follow the rules of any company that you work for, but strive to set a higher standard for yourself. Don’t come off as a snob, but make yourself a better person and a better professional by building a solid reputation with your clients. Once your reputation gets to a certain point, the places you only dreamed of working will likely start looking for you, rather than you having to look for them. If this isn’t the case, or if you don’t want to work for someone else, once your reputation has been established, you can easily work for yourself. Start your own business and your clients will follow because they trust you. Plus, they’ll tell people, which will get you new referrals, as well.

The right reputation and making the right connections can get you far in life. However, you’ll only go as far as you’re willing to try. If you aren’t willing to risk a big fat “no” for the chance at getting hired, then you’ll never get the job you dreamed of because fear will hold you back. Be confident in yourself, as your clients are, and you can get any job that you want in the cosmetology industry.

Career Spotlight on…Nail Techs

Posted: Wednesday, April 15th, 2009
Category: Cosmetology

Across the board, nail techs are required to complete 350 hours of education in order to be licensed and certified to operate. Many people have become engrossed in the world of beauty salons and day spas, which always include nail techs and their services. People spend a lot of money to have their nails done and having a career as a nail tech can mean that you are the one making that money. You could easily start out at a salon after your education, and eventually move up to owning your own nail salon. Anyone who takes a full cosmetology course will get the necessary training that nail techs get, allowing them to perform a variety of services within the salon for all types of people.

If you are looking for something simpler and are only interested in the opportunities for nail techs, then you can easily get a nail technician certificate, which will allow you to do nails wherever you please. With certification, you can easily work in any salon that you apply to, and you can even start your own nail salon. If you choose to start your own salon, it’s important that you take the time to review the guidelines set forth by the Board of Cosmetology in the state where you will operate. This board will need to review your salon periodically, as well as before you open your doors, to ensure that you have a properly operated and sanitary business that is professional and committed to providing service to customers.

The board certainly cannot determine your commitment or dedication, but this can be seen in the cleanliness and appearance of your salon. If starting your own nail salon sounds like too much work, you can easily join in on the newest trend in beauty services: mobile nail salons. These salons are operated by certified nail techs that carry their tools with them, traveling to customers’ homes to do the nails of people who request their services. This is a popular choice for many nail techs because you can have a more flexible schedule and provide a better service to clients that wouldn’t have the time or ability to come to you.

Becoming a nail tech is a great career choice for anyone who loves working with beauty and wants something different. Haircutting might not be for everyone, and a full cosmetology education might not be attainable. However, in less than a year, most people can have a nail technician certification that allows them to pursue the career they’ve always wanted.
