Three Ways to Land Your Dream Job

Careers in the industrial service industry are tricky to get into. They are also one of the most popular yet dangerous fields that people can work in. Whether you’re a contractor, an engineer, an electrician, or an HVAC operator, your job has a higher level of risk than most professions. There are likewise many rules, regulations, and requirements that need to be met. Succeeding in this industry depends on what you want from your career and how far you are willing to go to chase that dream. With some careful planning and determination, you can easily get the job that you have always wanted. Here are three ways to find the job that you’ve been dreaming of:

• Apply, apply, apply. This might sound obvious, but too many people sell themselves short and don’t apply for positions that they want because they feel like they aren’t qualified. If you have the appropriate industrial service training and the right attitude, you can get just about any job you want. However, you need to actually apply for the position first, so that you can land the interview.

• Network with other industry professionals. Make time to make friends in your career. Learn about other people in the industry and find out what it takes for you to get the job that you want. Networking often leads to more and better job opportunities because you’ll meet people that have a lot of experience within the industry.

• Establish your reputation. Follow the rules of any company that you work for, but strive to set a higher standard for yourself. Don’t come off as a snob, but make yourself a better person and a better professional by building a solid reputation with your clients. Once your reputation gets to a certain point, the places you only dreamed of working will likely start looking for you, instead of the other way around. If this isn’t the case, or if you don’t want to work for someone else, once your reputation has been established, you can easily work for yourself. Start your own business and your clients will follow because they trust you. Plus, they’ll tell people, which will get you new referrals, as well.

The right reputation and the right connections can get you far in life. However, you’ll only go as far as you’re willing to try. Don’t think for one second that you can’t get a particular job because you aren’t qualified. This defeatist attitude will hold you back.
