Insurance Training
When you’re in the insurance business, there’s no ‘almost’ or ‘maybe’ when it comes to continuing education courses. They need to be taken, and you need to keep your license current in order to sell insurance and work as an insurance agent. Every state has very different laws regarding the issue of licensing, but there is no leeway when it comes to not having one.
While it would be ideal to think that there will always be sufficient time to take your insurance CE, this isn’t always the case. You’re putting your career on the line if your license expires, so you should always keep at least three simple things in mind:
• The date of your license expiration. You need to know how long you have to take the required courses to renew your license. By knowing your license’s expiration date, you will be able to carefully choose your CE classes and find a reputable training provider.
• Which classes you have already taken. In many states, courses can only be taken once for credit. Therefore, you need to keep a list of those classes you have already done and what you haven’t so you can make sure to get the classes that actually count. It might occur to you to take a similar class or the same class just because it’s easy, but for the sake of valuable time and money, you should only take the classes that you actually need for your CE.
• What classes are available or required. By knowing what courses you have taken, as well as what you are required to take in the future, you will be much better able to get into the right classes at the right time. When you need specific courses, you might want to opt for online insurance training programs because of their wider course selection compared to traditional classes based on your geographic location.
These three things are critical for your upkeep of your insurance CE. In some industries, it’s not essential to keep an eye on these things. However, when it comes to insurance, having a current license is everything. With the accessibility and affordability of online courses, it’s easier than ever for you to get the training that you need and keep tabs on it.
